Ask anyone at B-Stock: ping pong is the unofficial pastime of our Boston office. For those of us who work there or have visited from one of our other three offices – the ping pong table is where the action is at (in between helping nine of the top 10 U.S. retailers achieve higher pricing for their returned, excess, and other liquidation inventory, that is).
So, it was no surprise that when the idea of entering a ping pong tournament was brought up, the Boston crew jumped on it. Cut to the following week when eight members of the Boston office showed up with their paddles to compete in the 2019 Next Step Ping Pong for a Purpose Tournament, benefiting the nonprofit, Next Step.
The competition was fierce: nineteen total teams; single elimination; bracket style. Representing B-Stock – in their custom shirts – were teams:
- Chris Mas (Chris Garofano + Kristen Bonito)
- White Fang (Sean Comi and Jim McNulty)
- Just Doob-it (Joe Dube + Dave Whitlock)
- Gump (Jon Speen + Tim Dupuis)
After a hard-fought battle between wooden paddles and plastic balls a winner emerged; when all was over Team Gump prevailed, taking home a bottle of wine each, gift cards, and lots of pride.
When asked about the experience and what it took to win, Jon Speen replied “The high level of in-office competition prepared us well for this tournament. Tim and I are honored to bring a championship to B-Stock and we look forward to defending our crown next year, all for a great cause.”
Boston office lead Steve Marbit added, “I know they like to play ping pong for fun, but this type of tournament really validated how good they are!”
In addition to ping pong tournament, the Boston crew also participated in the silent auction and enjoyed learning more about Next Step. The nonprofit helps young people with life-threatening diagnosis, intense medical treatment, and/or serious health issues make the transition to adulthood and independent living.
