The Kardashians are no strangers to keeping up with current trends. In fact, jumping on the lucrative apparel resale bandwagon, they recently announced the launch of Kardashian Kloset. While the secondhand fashion market is expected to double in the next five years to reach $51 billion, Kardashian Kloset joins ThredUp, The RealReal, and Poshmark in the apparel circular economy. So as the competition heats up in the apparel resale market, how do you get in the game?

Start with Sourcing

According to our data, the top five categories that resell the best are handbags, denim, footwear, jackets, and fine watches. So where do you find these items? B-Stock offers buyers access to over 20 different marketplaces to source apparel, footwear, and accessories. Find Movado fine watches and Michael Kors designer handbags on Macy’s. Get great deals on coats and jackets from Sears Overstock Auctions. Stock up on boots and shoes from Clarks, Sketchers, Vince Camuto and more on the QVC Liquidation Auctions marketplace. Source trendy denim styles direct from JCPenney Liquidation Auctions. From seasonal apparel to trendy junior styles, buyers can find what they’re looking for on our network of apparel, footwear, and accessories marketplaces

Where to sell

Whether you’re just starting out or growing your online resale business, our buyers love to resell their fashion finds on sites like eBay, Poshmark, and ThredUp. In fact, Poshmark recently announced that it paid its community of sellers a total of $2 billion dollars last year. And that’s up from the $1 billion the year prior! So, if you’re looking to get in the apparel resale game there are some things you’ll want to know.

Best Practices for Reselling Returned and Excess Apparel

Conditions Matter: Let’s be honest, newer condition is usually more favorable. An added bonus? If you can resell an item in its original packaging! It’s more beneficial to the end user.

Brand Recognition: To shoppers, brands matter! Brand names definitely draw more customers to your business as opposed to non-branded merchandise. So, if you’ve got the brand-name goods, advertise it!

Seasonality is Important: The truth is you will fetch a higher price selling items in season rather than out of season. As a reseller, you can expect diminished sales and recovery selling merchandise that is out of season.

Use Pictures: The more images, the more sales! And showing clothing or brands on models or mannequins…those do even better! Feel free to mix stock images with actual images, but if any of the items are damaged– show that too. You’ve got to be honest in showing the good with the bad.

As competition grows in the apparel resale business it’s important to educate yourself and set yourself up for reselling success. Before you join the community of Poshmark resellers, be sure to read our article A Poshmark Seller’s Guide to Buying Returned and Overstock Apparel.

"I feel so confident shopping and bidding on items knowing that I am going to get what I paid for. And if not, there’s a killer customer service team that’s going to make sure everything’s alright in the end. That’s huge. It’s hard to take that risk when you’re first starting out."
